These raw yooperlite stones are natural rough chunks of speckled gray rock that look ordinary in daylight. Shine a UV flashlight on them and bright orange and yellow spots blaze to life, as if the stones hold tiny embers. Each piece is about 20-40mm, easy to hold and fun to explore. Chakra Connection
In crystal tradition, yooperlite is linked to the Sacral Chakra and the Solar Plexus Chakra, where its hidden inner fire is tied to creativity, motivation and confidence. Many people see it as a symbol of the light we carry inside, even when it is not visible to others. Raw stones carry the meaning of authentic, unpolished potential, the idea that something remarkable can hide inside the most ordinary-looking rock. - Pair them with fluorescent calcite for a UV glow collection; see our calcite collection.
- Use them in science lessons about minerals and fluorescence.
- Give them to young rock hounds or curious friends; they make a fun stocking stuffer or birthday gift.
Crystal Care
Yooperlite is a fairly durable stone, around 5.5 to 6 on the Mohs scale, but edges can chip if dropped. Dust it with a soft cloth, or rinse it briefly in lukewarm water and dry it right away. Avoid harsh cleaners. Shine a longwave UV flashlight on it in a dark room to see the glow, and see Why Do Crystals Glow? to learn how it works.
FAQs
Does it really glow?
Yes. The sodalite in yooperlite fluoresces orange to yellow under longwave UV light, usually around 365nm. In normal light it looks speckled gray. A UV flashlight is not included.
Is it natural yooperlite?
Yes. It is natural syenite with fluorescent sodalite. The glow is a natural mineral property, not paint or a coating.
How big are the pieces?
Each piece is about 20-40mm. The 50g and 100g options include several pieces of mixed size and shape.
Is a flashlight included?
No. A longwave UV flashlight around 365nm is needed to see the glow and is sold separately.
Are they good for kids?
Yes, with supervision. Kids love discovering the glow. Keep small stones away from very young children.
What Is Yooperlite?
Yooperlite is the trade name for a gray syenite rock rich in fluorescent sodalite. It became famous after glowing stones were found on the Lake Superior shoreline of Michigan in 2017, and similar material, often called flame stone, is now also mined elsewhere and cut into carvings and shapes. In daylight it looks like speckled gray granite. Under longwave UV light, the sodalite lights up in bright orange and yellow, which is the easiest way to tell it apart from ordinary gray stone. Raw pieces show the natural rock just as it is found, which is why many collectors start with rough stones. Discover more in our yooperlite collection.
