In natural light, a Yooperlite sphere is a handsome grey stone, smooth and grounded, with subtle patterning that hints at something more. Under a UV blacklight, that something more reveals itself completely. The surface erupts in vivid orange and gold, its flame-like patterns blazing from within as if the stone is lit from the inside. These are genuine Yooperlite spheres, shaped from the sodalite-rich syenite found along Lake Superior's shores, and available in five sizes so you can find exactly the right fit for your collection or space.

Chakra Connection

Yooperlite's sodalite content connects it naturally to the Third Eye Chakra, the energy center associated with intuition, inner vision, and the ability to perceive what lies beneath the surface. It's a fitting resonance for a stone that hides its most spectacular quality until you know how to look. The sphere shape radiates energy evenly in all directions, creating a balanced, harmonious field that fills a room rather than directing energy to a single point. Yooperlite's igneous origins also ground it in the Root Chakra, keeping you anchored and steady as your awareness opens.

How to Use

  • Hold the sphere in both hands during meditation to open the Third Eye and deepen intuitive awareness.
  • Place it at the center of a crystal grid as a focal amplifier, letting its energy radiate outward to surrounding stones.
  • Use a UV blacklight (365nm works best) to reveal the full flame effect, a powerful visual anchor for visualization and intention work.
  • Pair with Labradorite to amplify psychic awareness and support transformation.
  • Combine with Amethyst to deepen spiritual connection and enhance meditation sessions.
  • Set alongside Clear Quartz to amplify Yooperlite's energy and bring additional clarity to your space.

Crystal Care

Yooperlite is a durable stone that handles most cleansing methods well. A brief rinse under cool running water is fine, though avoid prolonged soaking since the sodalite component can be sensitive to extended water exposure. For energetic cleansing, smudging with sage or palo santo works beautifully, and placing the sphere near Selenite overnight will clear and reset its energy without any risk to the stone. Moonlight is another excellent option and won't affect the UV properties at all. Keep it out of direct, prolonged sunlight to preserve the natural coloring.

FAQs

Is this a genuine Yooperlite?
Yes. Genuine Yooperlite is a sodalite-rich syenite found primarily along the shores of Lake Superior. Its UV reactivity is a completely natural property of the sodalite mineral content, not a treatment or coating. You can verify authenticity with any standard UV blacklight.

Does it glow without a UV light?
No. Yooperlite is UV reactive, not phosphorescent. It glows brilliantly under a UV blacklight (365nm is ideal) but appears as a natural grey stone in regular light. A small UV flashlight is all you need to see the full effect.

Why is it called a flame sphere?
The name comes from the flame-like orange and gold patterns that appear across the surface under UV light. The sodalite inclusions are distributed in flowing, irregular veins that resemble fire when they fluoresce, giving each sphere a completely unique pattern.

What crystals pair well with Yooperlite?
It works beautifully with Labradorite for intuition and magic, Amethyst for spiritual depth, and Clear Quartz for amplification. For grounding after deep meditation, add something from our Grounding and Stability collection.

Will my sphere look exactly like the photos?
Each sphere is pulled at random from our stock in your chosen size range. The flame patterns and coloring will vary from piece to piece, which is part of what makes every Yooperlite genuinely unique.

What Is Yooperlite?

Yooperlite was discovered in 2017 by Erik Rintamaki while scanning Lake Superior beaches with a UV flashlight. The stones had been there all along, carried south by glaciers over thousands of years, but nobody had thought to look at them under UV light. Technically they're a sodalite-rich syenite, an igneous rock with fluorescent sodalite woven throughout, and that sodalite is what produces the vivid orange glow. The name comes from the U.P., shorthand for Michigan's Upper Peninsula, where the best specimens are still found today.
