Scolecite is a delicate zeolite mineral that grows in sprays of fine, glassy white needles, and in this specimen those needles share space with natural calcite. The result is a bright, airy cluster that looks almost like frost or a starburst caught in stone. Each numbered option is an individual specimen, so you choose the exact cluster you want for your display, altar or collection. It is a striking conversation piece and a thoughtful gift for collectors who appreciate unusual minerals.

Product Highlights

  • Material: Natural scolecite with calcite
  • Form: Raw mineral cluster from our Raw Crystals and Clusters collection
  • Options: Individual numbered specimens, including small, medium and large display pieces
  • What's included: One raw scolecite and calcite cluster
  • Selection: Exact Pick. Each option is a specific specimen, and you receive the one you choose
  • Natural variation: Needle length, density and calcite coverage differ on every piece
  • Chakra: Traditionally linked with the Crown Chakra and Third Eye Chakra

Chakra Connection

In crystal tradition, scolecite is associated with the crown and third eye chakras, the centers of spiritual connection, intuition and inner calm. Its fine radiating needles are often described as a picture of gentle, outward flowing energy, and many people keep it nearby for quiet meditation, restful evenings or dream journaling. Calcite adds its own traditional association with cleansing and gentle renewal. Together they make a soft, peaceful presence in a room. Explore more stones like it in our Sleep and Relaxation and Peace and Tranquility collections.

How to Use

  • Display it in a closed cabinet or glass dome where the fine needles are protected and can catch the light.
  • Place it on a nightstand or meditation altar as a calm visual focus at the end of the day.
  • Pair it with amethyst or selenite for a soft, restful evening display.
  • Set it on a shelf with a dark background so the white needles stand out clearly.
  • Give it to a mineral collector, a meditation practitioner or anyone who loves rare, unusual specimens.

Crystal Care

Scolecite is a soft and fragile mineral, about 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale, and its thin needles break easily. Calcite is softer still and is sensitive to water and acids. Do not wash, soak or wipe this specimen. Instead, use a soft brush or a gentle puff of air to remove dust, and handle it only by the base. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. See our guide to crystals that should never go in water.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this scolecite natural?

Yes. This is a natural scolecite and calcite cluster. The needles grew this way in a cavity in volcanic rock, and the piece has not been dyed, coated or assembled.

How fragile is it?

Very. Scolecite needles are thin and brittle, so the specimen should be handled by its base and kept in a display spot where it will not be touched or knocked. It is not suited to carrying in a pocket.

Will mine look like the photo?

Yes. Each numbered option is an individual specimen, so the piece you choose is the one shown for that number. Lighting and screens may change the brightness a little.

How big is each specimen?

Sizes vary by option, and price generally rises with size and needle quality. The higher priced numbers are usually larger, fuller display clusters, while lower priced options are smaller pieces.

Is scolecite the same as natrolite or mesolite?

They are close relatives in the zeolite group and can look similar. Scolecite usually forms slightly thicker, glassy needles in radiating sprays, while mesolite tends to be finer and more hair like.

What Is Scolecite?

Scolecite is a calcium aluminum silicate in the zeolite group, minerals that form in gas bubbles and cavities of volcanic basalt as water slowly deposits new crystals. Its name comes from a Greek word meaning worm, because some crystals curl when heated. Scolecite usually forms white to colorless radiating needles, often alongside calcite, stilbite or apophyllite. India is a well known source of fine zeolite specimens. Its delicate habit and bright white color make it a favorite with collectors who enjoy airy, light catching minerals.

Each crystal is natural and unique, with no two crystals being identical. Some crystal may contain naturally formed cracks within itself, not caused by other objects.

Please note that size, color, and patterns may vary due to the different batches of crystals and its natural inclusions, or hand measurements.
