This natural blue allophane specimen is a vivid sky-blue to turquoise mineral that forms soft, bubbly crusts over its host rock. Its color is so bright it almost looks painted, but it is completely natural. Each specimen is a numbered, photographed piece, from tiny thumbnails to palm-size display pieces, making it a standout choice for collectors and lovers of blue stones.

Product Highlights

  • Material: Natural blue allophane on its host rock.
  • Form: An unpolished natural specimen from our raw crystals collection.
  • Size options: Pieces 1 to 31, each its own photographed specimen.
  • Size and weight: About 2.6-150g and about 23-70mm on the longest side, shown on each piece's photo.
  • Selection: Exact Pick. You receive the numbered specimen you select, the one shown in its photo.
  • Natural variation: Shades range from soft sky blue to deep electric blue and blue-green, with areas of brown or gray host rock.

Chakra Connection

Blue allophane is traditionally linked with the throat chakra, the center of honest expression and communication, thanks to its bright blue color. Its blue-green shades also connect it with the heart chakra in crystal tradition. Many people find its gentle, cool color calming to look at, and keep it nearby during quiet reflection or journaling. A natural, unpolished specimen also carries its own meaning: it represents a stone exactly as the earth made it, a reminder to accept things as they are. Explore more stones like it in our Peace and Tranquility and Anxiety Relief collections.

How to Use

  • Keep it on your desk or journaling space as a calming spot of color.
  • Pair it with celestite or amazonite for a soft, all-blue display.
  • Display smaller pieces in a specimen box or gem jar, and larger ones on a small stand.
  • Look at it for a few slow breaths when you need a moment of calm before speaking or presenting.
  • Give it as a gift to a mineral collector or anyone whose favorite color is blue, perfect for birthdays and holidays.

Crystal Care

Allophane is very soft and delicate, and its bubbly surface can crumble or rub off with handling. Touch it as little as possible and keep it in a protective box or on a shelf where it will not be bumped. Never wash or soak it in water, which can damage the surface, and keep it out of strong, direct sunlight and dry heat. Dust it only with a soft, dry brush or a gentle puff of air. Read more in crystals to never put in water.

FAQs

Is this color natural or dyed?

The color is natural. Blue allophane gets its bright tone from traces of copper, not from dye or coating. That is why the shade changes across each specimen, from pale sky blue to deeper electric blue and blue-green.

How big is each piece?

Sizes vary widely, from about 2.6g and 23mm long for the smallest pieces to about 150g and 70mm long for the largest. Each photo lists that specimen's weight and measurements so you know exactly what to expect.

Will mine look like the photo?

Yes. Every number matches one specific specimen, and its photo shows that exact piece. Bright blue colors can look slightly different from screen to screen, but the shape and texture will match.

Is allophane fragile?

Yes. Allophane is one of the softer minerals in our shop. Its surface can scratch, crumble or flake if handled roughly, so treat it as a display specimen rather than a stone to carry in a pocket.

Is it the same as chrysocolla or turquoise?

No. Allophane can look similar to chrysocolla or turquoise because all three can be bright blue and contain copper. Allophane, though, forms soft, bubbly or glassy crusts and is much more delicate than turquoise.

What Is Allophane?

Allophane is a hydrous aluminum silicate, a mineraloid that forms when volcanic glass and other rocks weather in the presence of water. It does not grow distinct crystals; instead it builds up as soft, rounded crusts and glassy coatings. Copper traces give some allophane its vivid blue to blue-green color, which is why these specimens are prized by collectors. It is sometimes sold alongside or confused with chrysocolla, smithsonite or turquoise, but allophane is lighter, softer and has a bubbly, almost frosted texture.

Each crystal is natural and unique, with no two crystals being identical. Some crystal may contain naturally formed cracks within itself, not caused by other objects.

Please note that size, color, and patterns may vary due to the different batches of crystals and its natural inclusions, or hand measurements.
