What Is Tiger's Eye?

Tiger's Eye is a variety of macrocrystalline Quartz with a Mohs hardness of 6.5 to 7, formed when crocidolite (blue asbestos) fibers are replaced by silica while retaining the fibrous structure. This fibrous structure is what creates the chatoyant effect. It is found primarily in South Africa, Australia, and India.
