Keep each crystal in a soft pouch or its own spot on a shelf. Avoid heat and sudden temperature changes, since the inclusions are sealed liquid and gas. Clean it with a soft brush or a damp cloth, then dry it. Long periods in strong sunlight may affect the golden tones, so a shaded display is best.

FAQs

Is petroleum quartz real and natural?

Yes. These are natural quartz crystals, not dyed or treated. The golden tones and dark specks come from natural hydrocarbons, such as oil and tar-like material, that were trapped inside the quartz as it grew.

Does it really glow?

Yes, the oil inclusions fluoresce blue under a UV (black) light. How bright the glow is depends on how much oil each crystal holds, so some pieces glow strongly and others show smaller blue spots.

How big is each crystal?

These are small to medium specimens, about 4.5-43g each. Most are roughly the length of a finger or a little shorter, and they sit easily between your fingertips or in the palm.

Will mine look like the photo?

Yes. Each number matches one specific crystal, and its photo shows that exact piece with its weight. Lighting can change how golden or clear it looks, but the shape and inclusions are the ones you will receive.

How is it different from enhydro quartz?

Enhydro quartz holds water bubbles, while petroleum quartz holds oil and gas. Some pieces contain both, with a moving bubble inside. The blue UV glow is the easiest way to tell oil inclusions apart from water.

What Is Petroleum Quartz?

Petroleum quartz is a variety of quartz that trapped tiny drops of crude oil, natural gas and tar-like material while it was growing. These inclusions give the crystals their pale gold color and dark specks, and they glow blue under ultraviolet light. Many pieces are double terminated, with a point at each end, because they grew suspended in soft rock rather than attached to a base. This type of quartz is famously found in Pakistan. It is sometimes confused with Herkimer diamonds, which are also double terminated, but petroleum quartz shows golden oil inclusions and a blue glow.

Further
